Kathmandu. Looks very similar to India, but of course very hilly city. Narrow streets, crazy traffic, vendors selling everything everywhere, ... Shops are nice, lots of Tibetan/Nepalese/Hindu art... and also lots of trekking shops. We could have bought everything here. Prices are much, much lower then in India, almost twice as much.
Did some sightseeing today, two temples, drove around the town. Very nice, but without pictures hard to tell.
Hotel, although called 'Shangri-La' is far from the places where I'd stay in Delhi, but at the same time, mentally we are prepared to sleep anywhere. Food is good, though. Ivana is sticking to tried-tested-true, but I am braving out for some local food.
This afternoon, we are getting our trekking gear (sleeping bags, parkas, etc.), and finalizing preparations for tomorrow's departure to Lukla, wherefrom our trek begins.
Tonight we'll have some local cultural program with Nepalese food and dance program afterwords. Looking forward to that.
Our group is 14 people, all English speaking (mostly Canadians, Ausies and 1 American). Suprisingly, most of the folks are (much) older than me, so I guess/hope I won't be last while trekking.
Lots of pictures so far, we'll keep taking them.
Talk to you from somewhere on the way up. All the best to our followers!
